SOOC Saturday: Tablelamps in trees

I turn 35 today.

I have loved the 30's - more than any other decade in my life .

Like a friend of mine says about the 30's  "Life is changing a lot but its good "

A lot of the goodness of this decade has come with becoming more resilient and being open to life and the road it takes me down

Now I know for sure  that not getting what I want in life does not mean not loving what I get

When I was expecting R - when people would ask if I wanted a boy or a girl - I would always say - all I want is normal

Well you see how that turned out !

A child who reads before he talks

Makes little crosswords but does not get hide and seek

Carries vowels instead of  a blankie

Worships numbers before he likes stuffed animals

And so on.

It seems to me that happiness is a choice.

A choice to spend mourning the life we were meant to have.

 or

To celebrate the one that we do have.

Another friend says "the bend in the road is only the end of the road if you refuse to take the turn"

So what if I did not get a typical child.

I did get the best one.

If there one thing I know, its that the unexpected oddest out of place things can be the most beautiful ones

Like Tablelamps hung from  trees.

Unexpected

Odd

And  Utterly Marvelous

Happy Birthday!

My 30s were the best decade thus far...I may say differently in a few more years though as I'm enjoying my 40s.

That is so wacky! I love it! Get shot - even if it is from a phone.

And a happy birthday to you!

K, I am completely lost on why it doesn't update on anyone's list, actually a few people have commented on that. I have tried fixing it a few ways but to no avail nothing seems to work.

Best,
Lisa

Happy Birthday. Speaking as someone who just turned 40 a few days ago I must say that it just gets better and better!!

I love your posts, by the way, I find them very inspirational. Yes, it is good to love what you have even if you didn't expect it!

Oh so true -- I completely agree. And I was in my 30s when I figured that out that I would be happier wanting what I had (than getting what I wanted) :D

I *love* your picture -- we hung Japanese lanterns from our trees and it reminded us of the Mad Tea Party from Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

One last thing, when we got the formal diagnosis of autistic disorder for our son, I had a well-meaning person come to me and tell me it was okay to mourn the loss of a dream. I've never really understood that because I see my son as his own person. He is happy and healthy and, I think, will make his own way in the world.

I love him just as he is.

great shot! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I tempted the Fates too. I saw an obese child in a restaurant when I was pregnant with Katie, and I said "lets make sure our kid never gets that way" ... God laughed and gave me a child with diabetes. Type 1(ish) she will never be fat.

Beautiful! I love your perspective, and I love your friend's quote: "the bend in the road is only the end of the road if you refuse to take the turn" how true.

Happy birthday, I hope you had a wonderful day!

Hasn't the world lied to us?! Culture tells us that we will be happy if we have a, b and c and in the right order.

WHAT A RIP OFF.

We are all made in His image sure, but all different aspects, uniquely put together. We are NOT cookie cut .... can you tell I am on my soap box now .... :)

The greatness in one of my children is so different to the greatness in another but together they compliment ... their greatness is then greater.

Your little man is precious. He will be passionate and focused and more than able in THE WAY He was designed; given his wings aren't cut.

Speak out his unique strengths and he will soar.

Love this post. Love the line 'Now I know for sure that not getting what I want in life does not mean not loving what I get.' So true!

Happy Birthday!!!!! I especially loved this line:

Now I know for sure that not getting what I want in life does not mean not loving what I get

I was just telling a friend that I didn't ask for all of this (life as it is) but I wouldn't change it. I hope I can still keep thinking that.

Cool picture, too! Unexpected things like that are great!!
