SOOC Saturday - The courage of a child

R is often seen these days ( and in this picture ) with looking for English Language clips on “Youtube”

When I ask him what he wants – he replies these days “ ee ef ay sar dot co “( eflstar.com)

These are all tutorials for people who are learning English as a foreign language.

He looks at each picture and listens raptly as the announcer says the word

Then he rewinds the clip

Then he tries to say it himself

He does a pretty good job – considering he cannot make several sounds ( l, r, w )

But he tries

Sometimes, he even does a hard word like "Hippopotamus"- (which is long – but does not have the dreadful l, r, w )

His eager face- hungry to learn, his daily and cheerful labor makes me want to cry ( and sometimes I do)

There is something so deeply touching about the cheerful courage of a child

For a child simply does not know what he cannot do.

I am so glad he did not understand when his speechie said it was one of the worst cases of Apraxia she had ever seen

So glad he has no idea how many problems he has.

For R does not know what he cannot do.

He simply knows he wants to

The best way out is through” said Robert Frost.

More recently my weightwatchers meeting leader said yesterday , "There are two things essential to success- first, to start and second, to go on!"

R is living these things

He is talking in spite of having a mouth that did not know what to do !

What could you do if were unburdened by the knowledge of what you could not?

What a inspiring post! Wow... I am so impressed that R would work so hard on his own like that. Wonderful! Good luck to him, but it sounds like he is creating his own good luck.

R is so motivated! I am having such a difficult time just getting my preschooler to learn his letters!!! He has no interest whatsoever! I love that picture too...and the cute 3's that are in front of R. :)

✩✩✩✩R you ARE a ST✯R✩✩✩✩
The biggest road-block I put in front of myself is NOT doing something because I fear failure....I must put your quote "There are two things essential to success- first, to start and second, to go on!" up somewhere to remind me to push through the fear that stops me from even starting something.
Thank you for your inspiration..both you K, and R!
Cheers

wow. This is totally awesome. He already knows what matters. Practice until you know how. It is the only way and he is doing it. I have goosebumps, this rocks!

Darling!!! That boy of yours humbles me in so many ways.

(I cannot say "s", "r", or "z" correctly - and it can be painful to try if others are listening).

I love his hunger to learn, to try things, to connect.

And I pray deafness for him when it comes to however someone may speak to limit him! Nothing is impossible with your dreamer :)

*tears* Oh my. I love this. Your little man is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your story with us like you do. What you said reminds me of the bee in this video:

http://www.raisingsmallsouls.com/wp-content/themes/179/aschool122008.html

No one told the bee it's wings weren't enough to support it's body in flight...so he flew anyway. (yay! happy tears!)

Yes, us, too. Jack still can't make certain sounds: the l,r, th, sh, all the blends. And still mixes up sounds: v, b, p, t.

I always say, English WAS his second language.

he is a jewel. i love the pic of him looking at that screen. "for a child dimply does not know what he cannot do." beautiful. i wish fluffy had a bit more of that. he seems burdened by all that he is SURE he cannot do.

Yes! I have a child who is living proof that doctors and therapists are sometimes wrong. Wil was to never talk or walk or have measurable intelligence. Ha.

R is an beautiful inspiration on many levels. He possesses a strong spirit. Thank you for sharing him.
