With 2 middle schoolers it is a word I hear among their friends. My kids know they are not allowed to use it and that I would rather they use a true swear word than the R word because a word like s*ithead does not single out any particular group. Not saying I allow that word either but just saying I actually prefer it to "retard" because that word is so hurtful.Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14934033119198457032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-7918619697832603632011-10-10T13:31:14.105-04:002011-10-10T13:31:14.105-04:00Absolutely beautiful & so true!Absolutely beautiful & so true!AutismWonderlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16264928687181454025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-51051288836953776082011-10-09T15:02:47.533-04:002011-10-09T15:02:47.533-04:00love this post, words do have meaning and the word...love this post, words do have meaning and the words our children hear about themselves will play a big role as they form their own self-image.

the dozen tomatoes comment made me laugh, great example :).danettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15555927841950877805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-3547805064379375372011-10-07T20:39:45.597-04:002011-10-07T20:39:45.597-04:00You explain the importance of the words we use so ...You explain the importance of the words we use so eloquently. I articulated that and asked the word to be changed but they couldn't as they had to have appropriate wording for services. It made my stomach drop.

I try to avoid the word normal too as it implies that my son is not.Lizbethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03449627964374811836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-16408101043494038882011-10-05T10:15:07.968-04:002011-10-05T10:15:07.968-04:00Brilliant as always.Brilliant as always.Bonskynoreply@blogger.com
