I find that at the beginning of each summer (busy social time for us) I have to relearn to let my expectations go. It's always a painful readjustment, but once I get it down, we have a great time going places...we just have to do it "our" way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-6474361876318157102012-05-10T05:04:27.626-04:002012-05-10T05:04:27.626-04:00Some great advice there, well done. We've been going to the one hotel here in Ireland for weekend breaks for the past 11 years! As regards summer trips abroad we change after a few years. This year we are due our 3rd trip to a particular hotel in Lanzarote. My saying is: familiarity breeds content ;-)

xx Jazzyjazzygalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04069218745940412457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-43131026615503551892012-05-09T20:19:53.291-04:002012-05-09T20:19:53.291-04:00Great post! Managing our own expectations has been key for us, as well as a combination of planning (so we're ready for anything as much as possible) and flexibility (so we can adapt our plans as needed) to make trips as enjoyable as possible for everyone :).danettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15555927841950877805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-58525976058477405662012-05-06T11:16:32.508-04:002012-05-06T11:16:32.508-04:00I found myself nodding throughout this post... bec...I found myself nodding throughout this post... because it applies so much to neurotypical children too! And to Moms who might have disabilities and feel like they need to plan and plan and plan for any meltdown or deviation from schedule.

I personally love the fact that you travel so much (please come visit us next :), and I look forward to the posts of what R has enjoyed about each trip as well as you and DH!Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12112453369738198010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-35667045630021262562012-05-05T18:43:31.770-04:002012-05-05T18:43:31.770-04:00Whenever we go somewhere I try to locate a park wi...Whenever we go somewhere I try to locate a park with a swing because if Alex has 30 minutes or so to swing in the morning it is a much better day for everyone. His main symptom is sensory seeking behavior so when he starts getting "antsy" we head for the swings. Needless to say, he does much better at amusement parks than museums. I try to keep that in mind as well.Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14934033119198457032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-49830837165748433202012-05-05T09:51:19.686-04:002012-05-05T09:51:19.686-04:00Wow, a lot of great advice! We have done almost everything you mention here and it does make a difference.

At first, I stubbornly did not plan activities my son would enjoy, thinking that we didn't go all that way to do something he could do at home. But it is important to think of what your child would like, and it often is not the same as what you like.

When all is said and done, though, having patience and managing our own expectations is probably the thing we need to be cognizant of the most.

Great post!Yujihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17025841543342602157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3920171049284403071.post-63748167976674603402012-05-05T05:37:37.918-04:002012-05-05T05:37:37.918-04:00We plan to do some serous travel this summer.
